A GIRL SHOULD BE TWO THINGS

A GIRL SHOULD BE TWO THINGS

The original quote was of course “A girl should be two things: Classy and Fabulous.” And no matter how much I admire Coco Chanel, who allegedly said this, I can’t agree. Because a girl shouldn’t have to be anything at all. Other than free and valued.

All these years of pressure to be something for someone else, to provide, to serve and to honour. What has this done to girls who became women? What has that done to us, to womankind?
The reason I started Eye Storm was because of this. Because over the years of working in both film production and lately coaching “normal” people in front of the camera; business owners, coaches, experts, I’ve constantly seen how the women next to the men take a step back to hide. They allow the men to step forward first and wait for their turn, hoping it won’t come. They’re happy to serve and to oblige, fearing they’ll lose everything if they’re too ambitious, that they’ll make a fool of themselves if they say something wrong.
No matter how similar their education, experience and expertise, the women assume the men know better, have more confidence and will do a perfect job.
It’s time to turn gender equality on its head now, and we need to not just demand it, but also step up to be equal.
We need to let young girls be forward, loud and natural, we need to let women feel they have as much space as men, to feel that they’re not serving anyone but themselves.
We need to be those women, who are unbound, who step up, who claim their space. Who make as many mistakes as the men we see around us, who practice to get better and who are determined they will succeed.
Because it still doesn’t look like anyone is going to ask us to step up any time soon.
We live in an amazing time, especially in the part of this world where I am, we have complete freedom to do what we want. Education, marriage, work. We have the space, we have the options, we need to make equality happen. We owe it. To ourselves and to all other women throughout history and in the future.

All people should only be two things. Free. And valued.
