INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY SPEAKERS 2023

Samaneh Savadi, Speaker IWD2023

Samaneh Savadi

Iranian feminist and gender equality advocate, based in Brighton

I will talk about the everyday resistance of Iranian women and their civil disobedience to fight misogyny and discrimination.

I came to the UK 8 years ago to do my master degree at Sussex university.
I studied International criminal law and then migration studied at Sussex.
I am a founder of Cheragh Academy, an online platform to fight against sexual harassment in the workplace. We design and teach different courses to make the workplace safe for everyone.

I also, in a personal capacity through my social platforms, raise awareness about motherhood and reproductive rights.
Lisa Baskott, Speaker IWD 2023

Lisa Baskott

Founder of 2nd Line Defence, Chair of the Judicial Diversity Committee SE England, Security Industry Authority (SIA) Licensed door supervisor, based in Hove

I’ll talk about how championing a movement to bring about systemic change within the UK’s front line security industry can help to address society’s response to gender-based violence, by highlighting the fundamental rights of women and vulnerable groups to feel safe on the streets at night.

As part of a commitment to serving her community, Lisa has been a serving Magistrate for 10 years; she sits as a Presiding Justice in both the Adult and Youth Courts in Sussex.

Lisa became a qualified Security Industry Authority (SIA) licensed door supervisor in September 2021. Since then she has worked as part of security teams covering special events at the Hilton Brighton Metropole and The Grand Brighton hotel, including the Labour Party Conference.

Mi Elfverson, EyeStorm and Video Producer

Mi Elfverson

Video Producer and founder of The Vlog Academy, Creator of EyeStorm, an award winning global community and learning platform for women

I’ll be talking about some everyday things we all can do to fight gender bias and accelerate women in our society – and I need you to help me share your ideas and recommendations!

I launched The Vlog Academy in 2015 to help business owners to increase their online visibility and communicate with confidence via video.

But I soon saw that women needed their own support platform, as they had different questions, different fears, and different needs. This encouraged me to create a training platform just for women as well as a community, supporting women to step forward to claim their righteous space in the world – EyeStorm – now an award winning community in its own right.
